La Joya ISD Swears in New Chief of Police, Leonardo Sanchez

In a significant and solemn ceremony, La Joya ISD welcomed its new Chief of Police, Leonardo Sanchez, on September 12, 2023. 

Chief Sanchez was sworn in with great honor by our Hidalgo County District Attorney Terry Palacios, symbolizing the official commencement of his duties as the guardian of safety and security within the La Joya ISD community.

The ceremony drew notable figures from the law enforcement community, reinforcing the strong spirit of collaboration and support in the region. Among those present were City of Palmview Chief of Police Jose Trevino, City of Mission Chief of Police Cesar Torres, and City of San Juan Chief of Police Leandro Sifuentes. Additionally, Constable Precinct 3 Larry Gallardo added his distinguished presence to the gathering.

The event was not just a reflection of the commitment to safety within the school district but also an opportunity for La Joya ISD to express its gratitude to the broader community and its elected officials. The presence of other elected officials underscored the significance of Chief Sanchez's role within the community.

Officers from the La Joya ISD Police Department, the backbone of security and safety in the district, were also in attendance, showing their support and solidarity for their new leader.

Mr. Heriberto Gonzalez, Superintendent of Schools, remarked, "Today marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing mission to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. Chief Sanchez brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role, and we are confident that he will excel in his duties."

School Board President Alejandro "Alex" Cantu echoed these sentiments, stating, "We extend our heartfelt welcome to Chief Sanchez and express our appreciation for his commitment to the safety of our students, staff and community. We look forward to working closely with him to achieve our shared goals."

The event was also marked by the presence of Chief Sanchez's family members, who provided invaluable support and encouragement as he embarked on this new chapter in his career.

As the ceremony concluded, La Joya ISD took a moment to thank all those in attendance for their support and dedication to the safety and well-being of the district's students and staff.
