On November 14, 2024, the Juarez Lincoln JROTC, Service Learning Team conducted their site survey at the La Joya Stadium and Central Office parking lot in preparation for their upcoming JROTC Program Accreditation (JPA). The JPA is a formal inspection administered by the United States Army Cadet Command, that assesses all aspects of the JROTC curriculum in order to validate program accreditation. The Service Learning Team is tasked with conducting and presenting a project that provides value to the community through service by cadets, which culminates with cadets preparing and formally presenting their project to the US Army inspection team. Cadets from the “Mighty Husky Battalion “have designated their project to be the creation and installation of Purple Heart parking spaces in specific locations across the district to include the La Joya ISD Football Stadium and La Joya ISD Central Office. Cadets established the first Purple Heart parking space on their campus and hope to raise awareness of Veterans in the community who have earned the Purple Heart for their brave actions in combat. Cadet Captain Marisol Sauceda, the leader of the Service Learning Project said, “I feel today’s site service was a valuable experience for the team because we were able to meet district employees who are motivated to support our efforts and we look forward to working with them on such an important project”. The project is made possible thanks to Mr. Mark Sierra and the Purple Heart Project from Boerne, Texas who provided the signs and motivation to inspire the Husky Battalion Cadets. The Husky Battalion anticipates completion of the district project by late December and the JPA Inspection in February 2025.
